- California Valley Solar Ranch is 1,500 acres and produces 624,000,000 kWh per year or 416,000 kWh per acre per year.
- 416,000 kWh will provide 4,894 charges for a Tesla Model S with a 85 kWh battery.
- A Tesla Model S has a range of about 250 miles per 85 kWh charge. [Stated range is 265 miles.]
- 4,894 charges X 250 miles per charge = 1,233,500 miles per year from power produced by one acre of solar panels in California.
Here is the driving range from one acre of corn converted to ethanol.
- One acre of corn will yield about 180 bushels per year. [US average is 154.4]
- A bushel of corn will yield 2.75 gallons of ethanol.
- 180 bushels of corn will yield 495 gallons of ethanol.
- Assume an internal combustion engine average of 40 miles per gallon of gasoline.
- Assume 20% less range for ethanol than gasoline or 32 miles per gallon of ethanol. [Stated loss is 15% to 30%.]
- 495 gallons of ethanol at 32 mpg = 15,840 miles
Solar outperforms corn ethanol by 77 times [1,233,500 miles vs 15,840 miles]. Bio fuel and internal combustion engines are dead and just have not heard the news. |
